Merry Tuesday, and Happy Almost October! It’s been two and a half months since we first shared our “Songs We Can’t Wait to Hear Live!” playlist, and tons of great new music has been released since then! Here’s some of our favorite releases from September and August:
Sundressed – Home Remedy
One of my favorite releases so far this year is Sundressed’s newest album Home Remedy. Though the album was written last year, the events of 2020 have made the album hit that much harder. Songs on Home Remedy tackle subjects such as stress, mental health, and the difficulty of keeping it all together when you can barely pay the bills, let alone afford healthcare. You can listen to the entire album pretty much anywhere, so there’s no excuse not to check it out! The band was scheduled to play a full band livestream this past Sunday, but unfortunately one of their members broke his wrist, so the stream has been postponed until he heals up. However, you can view some previously recorded live songs from the album on YouTube!
Blaqk Audio – Beneath the Black Palms
For those who aren’t familiar, Blaqk Audio is an electronic band comprised of current AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget. The band took a unique approach to releasing this album, releasing Side A in late July, before releasing the full album almost a month later. The duo was set to play Cruel World Fest this past May, but the festival was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. Stand Atlantic – Pink Elephant
Stand Atlantic’s newest album Pink Elephant is full of bops! The song “Jurassic Park” played on one of my playlists, and I knew right away it was Stand Atlantic, and that I had somehow missed the announcement of their new album. The one and only time I’ve gotten to see this Australian pop punk band was at last year’s Sad Summer Festival. I had so much fun singing along to songs like “Coffee at Midnight,” and I can’t wait to catch a full set by them now that they have two full albums out!
Knuckle Puck – 20/20
Knuckle Puck is a band I’ve seen 8 times now. Each and every time has been a blast, and I know their next shows will be no exception, with the addition of songs from new release 20/20. On their last tour before everything shut down, the band played “Breathe,” which features Derek Sanders (Mayday Parade). Though 2020 (the year) has been pretty sucky so far, the album 20/20 provides the pop punk pick me up that we all need. I can’t wait to catch more of these tracks live, whenever the next opportunity may be!
closure. – Seasons Change
Early last month we interview Collins of closure. about concerts and the bands upcoming (now released) debut album, Seasons Change. I got to catch closure. for the first time in NJ last November and loved their set. Luckily I got to see them again this March, just a week before everything shut down. In last month’s interview, Collins mentioned being most stoked to play Call Me and the title track live, and I can’t wait until they do! Teenage Halloween – Teenage Halloween
Teenage Halloween is one of those bands I’ve been hearing about for a few years, but never got around to checking out, until now! When I saw they released their debut album two Fridays ago, I decided to check it out. Needless to say, I’m now convinced that I definitely need to catch them live at the next opportunity. About the album, the band said on their Twitter “it’s about collected trauma but also finding euphoria in yourself by being vulnerable. you don’t need to look a certain way to be beautiful. you are valid. hope you can relate to this.” Listen on bandcamp, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever else you like to get music!
Skatune Network – Skatune Skatoons!
Like Ska? Like Cartoons? Then this is the album for you! Skatune Network’s newest release is ska versions of 20 songs from Cartoon Network. Admittedly, I didn’t watch much Cartoon Network as a kid, but these ska versions are bops! Along with the songs from Ska Goes Emo, Vol. 1 released in April, I’m super stoked to catch another Skatune show someime in the future. The sets I caught at Fest last year were so much fun, even the one that was super late at night and I was so tired that I had to sit on the floor the whole time. At the very least, I know I’ll be able to catch a Skatune set at Fest again next year! Find all the links you need on Skatune’s linktree.
